One word stands out from all others as the key to knowing God, having his peace and assurance in your heart, it is obedience. Obedience to God 's will is the secret of spiritual knowledge and insight. It's not willingness to know, but willingness to do God's will that brings enlightenment and certainty regarding spiritual truth. Obedience is the secret of being conscious that God guides you personally. If in the quiet of your heart you feel something should be done, stop and consider whether it is in line with the character and teaching of Jesus. If so, obey that impulse and do it, and in doing so you will find God guiding you.'

Eric Henry Liddell was born on the 16th January 1902 in Tientsin (Tianjin) in North China,
second son of the Rev & Mrs James Dunlop Liddell who were missionaries with the London Mission Society.
After the 1924 Olympics and his graduation he returned to North China where he served as a missionary from 1925 to 1943 -
first in Tientsin (Tianjin) and later in Siaochang. During 1941 - 1943 he stayed in Tientsin, then in 1943 he was interned in Weishien Camp until his death in 1945.
