What does your faith mean to you?
As the Rev. Thomas Jarvie put it , we can say, "I
believe in God, so what ?" or we can say "I believe in
God, therefore..
The first way is by far the easier. It's easy to go to
church on Sunday, to the Guild or the Men's Club, to drop our
offering in theplate - and think that's the end of our
obligations.
On the other hand , we can believe in God,
therefore....therefore we go out of our way to help the old body
down the road who can't get out on the icy streets. Therefore we
go to cheer up a neighbour in hospital who hasn't been too well.
Therefore we try to live up to all the demands which faith
imposes.
The reward is an inner peace and a strengthening of the
character that an easy faith will never give.
